Scrapbooking on Steroids

Barely a day goes by recently where a new social networking or image host springs up, only to fade to nothing and slip past everybody because of a fundamental lack of originality!
So I found it quite refreshing to learn this morning that somebody was doing something unusual with a website! Glogster is a fantastic new way to express your mood, feelings and ideas visually. The simple and intuitive interface quickly takes you a long way beyond what could be created with basic text and videos. It’s still officially in beta - but I personally feel that it’s already as slick as it needs to be!
Creating a glog allows you to express those ideas and thoughts that are difficult to describe with words alone, opening the doorway to a whole new method of communication. Choose a background, select some shapes and characters from the online galleries, add text, upload your own videos and photos, and add just a splash of music and you’re done - simple as that! In a matter of minutes you can make a colourful mix of ideas that reflects your unique qualities. The site also makes it easy to share your glog with friends, and there is even a way to embed it into your blog or website.
As if that wasn’t enough they’re also running a launch competition, with the top 100 highest ranking glogs at the end of the contest nabbing their creator an iPod and a fifty dollar iTunes voucher. I don’t generally participate in online competitions, but if you want to know more than take a look at the How to Win page that Glogster has put up on their site.
I had a thoroughly good time creating my first Glog, using images and video relating to the London Underground (and no, I’m not a trainspotter). The whole thing took me less than 40 minutes, including uploading the source files..! To create the same thing in Flash would probably have taken me about 5 hours - and I really don’t think it would have been half as much fun!
So give Glogster a try, and then come back to tell me what you think of it! ![]()

hey….thanks! for visiting my blog. Though am not a frequent writer…just try to keep my wrk posted on.
Anyways…glogs…are a nice way of expressing ur ideas visually…thanks for the update for technology
You’re very welcome!
Hi dear friend!
Not another one please…
I like the idea but I already have trouble leaving comments on blogs that I like to read [you must have noticed… :p] let alone stay updated on social networking websites [you must have noticed… :p] so it’s not for me, I’d rather stay with one…
Did you see that show last week about FB I think it was BBC, quite interesting! What was shocking to me: people actually believe their personal info is safe online… Is that ignorance or what? Perhaps an interesting topic for a post? Would love to hear your opinion!
Have a wonderful xmas with your family!!!
Hi Tess!
This one’s different though - it’s totally visual, and you don’t have to do the whole ’social networking’ thing to make it work… Given your style of design, I think you’d really enjoy it - not to mention end up with an iPod out of it!
Yeah, I saw that BBC piece on Facebook… The thing is that people have always been too trusting of the Internet, and the more people start using it for social and self-publicising reasons, the more likely it is that they’ll get pharmed or phished or scammed! Maybe I’ll write a post on it!
Have a great Christmas and New Year yourself - here’s to a much better year for everybody next year!
Hi Paul! Just created my first glog! thanks for that link! spent too much time on it though! whenever i visit ‘graphicdesignblog’ i always get sidetracked!(found your link there), now you’ve done the same thing! great for getting the creative juices going though!
Happy new year!
Jane
Hi Jane!
Thanks for your comment. I’m happy that I provided you with a worthy distraction!
What’s your username on Glogster, so I can add you as a friend?
Hey that sounds cool, I’m going to go over and create a glog now. Every so often something cool emerges from the noise of web 2.0 banality to give us some cheer.
Glogster sounds like a really good idea, but personally I am starting to have trouble keeping up with the “good” social sites. It is getting to be too much for me!
I’ll try this one of this days and see how it works. Glogster- great idea to create a network of friends!
OMG, not another *log mnemonic! First Blogs, then Vlogs, then Splogs, now Glogs. When will the madness end? Good article btw
@ Bert agreed - I can’t seem to keep up with the - as you so aptly put it “*log mnemonic!” - trends.
@Paul
Great post, thanks for checking this out and sharing it. Great looking blog (look & content) I’m a first time visitor, but I’ll definately be back
It’s a bit pink for me! Really quite off putting!
Is this aimed at girls?
Glogster? lol I think ster is played out, its er without the e now a days… or maybe its something else again.
Anyways nice header!
This will make it easier for the blogger to mix media together. Maybe those working with visuals - designers and art students will find this application useful as it allows them to create and share ideas.
Another way to create a network..
I haven’t try that one yet, I’m kinda interested working with this new one. Thanks for sharing! By the way, nice image of Glogster!
Outrageous site Paul. It reminds me of when I was in highschool with 2000 things tacked to my bedroom walls, to help me identify myself. Great find and suggestion, a site well worth spreading the word about.
Hey all! Glad this generally went down well! Did anybody above actually end up winning an iPod?!?

Thanks for your comment and compliments Jayson - I look forward to seeing your name pop up more often!
Glogster is fun and lets users showcase their unique personalities. Members can also copy their glogster link and post it to a website. I can definitely see it appealing to the high-school and younger set.
I have been dreaming of having a suceesful blogs/sites like your. I just recently started 3 new blogs while my fist blog is still in the process of working out….
Legal mesmo… eu sou do Brasil…. adoro o seu blog ok….
Glogster is one of the best sites I have seen in ages. It is a much better way to get yourself across than all the previous solutions, absolutely love it, thanks for the tip.
glogster is easy to manage, the expressions are quite good — in fact pictures reflects better then words . so a good discovery, no luck with ipod though
glogstr rocks. keep it moving
Looks great–looks like it could appeal to somebody’s vanity. Oh and thanks for the mention of Scrapblog. I can’t wait to see what they will do to compete against Blurb.
Hey, it has been quite a long time since you last posted anything. Is all well there?
Good stuff, I’ve never heard of the Glogster until now…thanks!
cheers
