Britster - Call for Beta Testers

I’ve been working on Britster now for a number of months now, and the project is finally nearing completion! Everything’s in place to make this the biggest thing to happen to Social Networking in Britain for a long time - and I for one can’t wait to see this baby fly!
During the first week of July the site will enter a ‘Private Beta’ phase, during which all of the little niggles will be resolved. Once this is done, the site will move to a ‘Public Beta’ a month later - which will see the doors open to members of the public.
In order to obtain the best possible feedback during the Private Beta, I’d like to invite a select group of people to test the site with me, providing their opinions on what does (and doesn’t) work - and telling me what they think could be done better. This focus group will have exclusive access to a special discussion forum, where they can talk about their findings and opinions.
This will all take place during the first two weeks of July, after which I’ll continue to work with the group to implement their suggestions and feedback.
So… Do you think you’ve got what it takes to help me? I’m looking for technically-minded people, who understand how social networking sites work, and who can help me to take this project to the next level. There won’t be any payment for your time at this stage, but you will get your name and a link to your website placed in a prominent position once the site goes live.
Even though the site itself is strongly focused on the British, I don’t see why location should matter during the beta stages - so this is open to everyone! Leave a comment, or contact me directly - and let’s work together to put the great back in Great Britain! ![]()

Britster looks and sounds great! I’d be happy to be part of that private testing team if you like. I’ve owned and developed a social networking site in the past, so I know “whats what” and may be able to give some valuable feedback
[…] At the moment he is preparing it for a private Beta and looking for some help in geting the bugs out, so if you have any experience with the inner workings of a social networking site and would like to lend a hand let him know over at his site, Reflections. […]
Wishing you well with this one Paul, I wish I could do more than cheer you on but I’m not one of the technically minded.
You can count on me being back for the public Beta though!
Thanks for the verbal support mate, and for clipping me on your blog too! If you haven’t already signed up for the public beta then you can do so using the form on the current site.
I have signed up now, and added a link to the site in my post too.
Small suggestion, give it a better favicon!
LOL! What’s wrong with the fav icon? It’s a Union Jack blowing in the wind…
Count me in dude! (As always) and good luck
You’re already on the shortlist mate - as promised!
Warning: Britster may be hazardous to your health. I laughed so hard at that banner in your post I nearly wounded myself on a low hanging shelf.
Please tell me that i) it is a part of something official for the site and ii) you’ve hired the remaining members of Monty Python to do promotional materials?
Oh, it’s definitely part of something official - it’s the pre-launch strapline, and is on 10k flyers, business cards, t-shirts etc etc. Maybe I’ll post some images later of the stuff we’ve been using to promote it!
The problem is that half the people who see it love it, and wet themselves laughing - and the other half find it highly offensive.
Surely there can’t be enough original Python members left to do promotion for us? Last time I checked they were dropping like flies.
Impressive project. Good luck with the launch of the site!
Hey, can Canadians join the community as well? I too spell the “colour” right.
Looks interesting Paul, happy to test if you still need more people?
BTW you will be in trouble with the Scottish and Welsh for this -
“biggest thing to happen to Social Networking in England”
Typo fixed!
I’ll add your name to the shortlist, and let you know either way shortly! Thanks!
Sorry Vivien! I missed your comment!
I know you lot spell colour right, but do you call trousers pants or trousers?
Yes, people who call trousers pants should definitely be banned, its just not right
You know what people who call trousers pants call their behind, don’t you?
Yes! that’s even weirder
well… I used to always call trousers ‘trousers’, until my husband started correcting me: “Do you mean ‘pants’?”
So now I usually ask him - “did you find your clean trousers..uhmm… pants?”
I have always been slightly perplexed by the “Trousers v. Pants” discussion. Being British I always call my trouse ‘Trousers’, and my underpants ‘pants’. But surely if ‘underpants’ is the correct term, then trousers should be called Pants.
Is this a case of the colonials actually getting something right? Surely not!
Nope - we’re right, but your naming of underwear has been tainted by the colonial tongue!
British = underwear and trousers. American = underpants and pants.
