Sometimes you just have to replace bad mental images with good ones! She ended up claiming more than a thousand pounds in the end, and my premium shot up by almost 200 quid too when I renewed last month…

What a bad day to have an accident! It’s weird that she didn’t make a claim before a few weeks and didn’t want to show proof of insurance. I wouldn’t be surprised she had no insurance as well. It surely feel unfair that you would be held responsible even if the other party would be driving illegally. I can’t get my head around that. I am glad to see that you kept only the best memories from that day.

Insurance is a huge field with lots of brokers and companies trying to get your business, some will tell you anything to get your business and then be as awkward as hell when you need to claim, sorry to hear you had such a rough time with it all. FWIW, they aren’t all bad!

That sucks!

This may seem a dishonest thing to do, and it may be a bit too late anyway. But if you really suspect she has no insurance then I would have changed my story - denied any liability - it was her fault!

Then it becomes a job for BOTH insurance companies to decide who is liable. That’s why they say never say sorry after an accident, as it implies liability. Difficult when you’ve blatantly pranged someone elses car, but might have helped in this case.
